WHATS HAPPENED TO MADAGASCAR ?

In late January 2009, political demonstrations occurred all over the country, criticizing the policies of the ruling president, Marc Ravalomanana . The demonstrations turned to violent riots and the president fled the country in March . The 34 year old Antananarivo mayor, Andry Rajoelina led the popular front to power and received the presidential mantel later that month .

During this time, the country was declared unstable, with many people becoming victims of violent crime, because of their political values . The police force were busy dealing with the riots, and regional crime flourished . Now there is a restoration of order to the country, and police are back on the streets again .

The road blockades have disappeared and tourists are free to traverse the country again . As a result of continuing bad press, visitors are staying away, or deferring their holidays . The time to visit Madagascar is in these next few months, when there will be very few visitors . The message is not yet out that our country is back on track!
